L’histoire d’une relation intime entre la vie et la nouvelle gare haute du téléphérique du Salève.
Derrière tout espace et tout lieu, il y a une superposition d’histoires. Celle de Maurice Braillard, au commencement. Il réalisait dans les années 30 la gare haute du téléphérique du Salève, tout près de Genève. Cette superstructure d’une modernité sans concession n’a pas été construite dans sa totalité et elle a été progressivement dénaturée.
Se chevauche alors l’histoire des architectes Devaux & Devaux. Près d’un siècle plus tard, ils restaurent et transforment cette oeuvre inachevée, tout en continuant son dessin.
Depuis lors, tantôt l’architecture impose calme, introspection et offre des relations quasi existentielles au paysage, tantôt l’architecture est submergée par la vie et la trivialité. Parfois aussi, structure et vie s’entremêlent dans une étonnante liberté et organicité.
Et si ce qu’on appelle architecture était précisément tout cela ? Ce matériau imaginaire et imprévisible empreint de rires et de poutres, de dialogues et de verre, de nuage et de béton.
The story of an intimate relationship between life and the new upper station of the Salève cable car.
Behind every space and every place lies a layering of stories. First, there’s the story of Maurice Braillard. In the 1930s, he designed the upper station of the Salève cable car, near Geneva. This uncompromisingly modern superstructure was never fully built and was gradually altered. Overlapping with this is the story of the architects Devaux & Devaux. Nearly a century later, they restored and transformed this unfinished work, while continuing its design.
Since then, architecture has sometimes imposed calm, and introspection, offering almost existential connections to the landscape; at other times, it is overwhelmed by life and the mundane. Sometimes, too, structure and life intertwine in a surprising freedom and organic flow. And what if what we call architecture were precisely all of this? This imaginary and unpredictable material imbued with laughter and beams, dialogue and glass, cloud and concrete.
